The Hanna-Abstein Scholarship is funded by Tye Hanna and Stephanie Abstein, both Leon High alumni who wanted to give back to their school. The scholarship is for $3,000 per year for up to four years for one Leon High School graduating senior. Total scholarship is $12,000. As long as the student maintains the required 2.0 college GPA, the award is granted each semester of attendance at $1500 per semester. Awardees must not be a recipient of Bright Futures, Florida Academic, Florida Gold Seal, or TCC Ambassador Scholarships. Awardees attending an out-of-state college and not receiving the above scholarships are eligible for Hanna-Abstein. This scholarship is partially based on financial need.

Leon Foundation / Tallahassee Community College Scholarship is funded by the Leon High School Foundation and Tallahassee Community College for a maximum of two years for two Leon High School graduating seniors. The award is $2,000/year. As long as the student maintains the required 2.0 college GPA, the award is granted each semester of full-time attendance at TCC, with a maximum of 4 semesters or two years of school. The awardees must not be a recipient of Bright Futures, Florida Academic, Florida Gold Seal, or TCC Ambassador Scholarships. This scholarship is partially based on financial needs.

Lir Sullivan was captain of the Leon High School football team in 1995 and was voted the team’s most outstanding lineman his senior year. Lir was killed in a car accident at the end of his first year at UF. His family would like to remember Lir in a positive way by helping other Leon High graduates fulfill their dreams with a college education. One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $250 per year for a total of $1000 over four years of undergraduate studies to a Leon High School senior who displays the values of motivation and perseverance in his or her teenage life. As long as the student maintains the required 2.8 college GPA, the award is granted each semester of attendance at $125 per semester.

Rod Durham, affectionately known to his students as “Durham,” taught writing, theater, and dramatic art for more than 19 years at Leon High School, his alma mater. During that time, Durham transformed Leon’s drama program—and touched the lives of students who looked to him as a teacher, director, and mentor. Under his creative, visionary and impassioned direction, Leon’s drama department grew. So did its reputation as an award-winning program whose acting troupes consistently earned “superior” ratings and “best-in-show” awards in district and state competitions. Today, District 1 Troupe 1429 is known throughout North Florida for its excellence. Durham, who graduated from Leon High School in 1982, also transformed the Thespians from a service club for actors into a community for students in all of the performing arts.
Millions were inspired by his wit and grit as a cast member on ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, where he committed a year to transforming his life.
Elizabeth Klamer
Michel Oksenberg was a leading China scholar and was involved with negotiations during the Carter administration that led to the normalization of U.S. relations with communist China. An alumni of LHS, Mr. Oksenburg attended Swarthmore College and earned a Ph.D from Columbia University. The Oksenburg Scholarship is awarded to a student who is a child of a teacher or staff member of LHS and is funded by a donation from the Oksenberg family. $500 each

This scholarship was created in memory of Brooks Rogers, a former LHS graduate and member of the Leon High School Swim Team. Funded by donations given in memory of Brooks Rogers, the scholarship is awarded to a student who, as a member of the Leon High School Swim Team, embodies the principles of spirit, leadership, integrity, sportsmanship and above all camaraderie—all ideals that strongly characterize the life and legacy of Brooks Rogers. $500

Funded by the Miller family in honor of Bernard Miller, who was a football and wrestling coach at LHS, this scholarship is given to the team member who displays exemplary character both on and off the field in football and wrestling. $1,000 each.
Keiron Amod Major
Mr. Jim Nettles, former Leon High School principal who passed away in 2013, this scholarship for a rising junior or senior who is interested in attending leadership training/conference. It is primarily given to someone who is chosen to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference in North Florida.
